CHALLENGE:
Each year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri holds a holiday fundraiser called Stories of Light. The campaign is a statewide fundraising campaign which helps
support the funding of wishes for hundreds of children in Missouri each year. With wish grants costing on average $5,000, it takes a great deal of fundraising to help these
children with life-threatening illnesses receive their wishes.
SOLUTION:
While most nonprofit organizations were working with corporate partners and offering their normal sponsorship benefits, Make-A-Wish and Emmis Community Outreach were
presenting a unique package which included a heavy amount of mainstream public relations and marketing support. Ameristar Casino, a great community supporter, stepped up to
sponsor the campaign. More than 800 messages were aired over two months on four major St. Louis radio station.
"Wish Kids" were invited to the Emmis studios to help record these inspirational messages. The messages featured children talking about how special it was to
receive their wish...a trip to Walt Disney World, a behind-the-scenes tour of Busch Stadium and meet 'n greet with St. Louis Cardinals players and much more.
RESULT:
Make-A-Wish was able to reach their fundraising goal for the entire state through a unique sponsorship opportunity. Ameristar casino was showcased in the community as an
outstanding corporate citizen and friend of the nonprofit community. And Emmis Community Outreach was able to once again provide marketing support, access to potential donor
and various other resources to a very deserving organization in the St. Louis area.
