Smoke Free Indy, American Cancer Society & WIBC |
CHALLENGE:
Emmis Community Outreach has a history of supporting a variety of anti-tobacco campaigns in
conjunction with the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation (ITPC) agency, Indiana High
School Athletic Association (IHSAA), American Cancer Society, and many others. When an
opportunity arose to work with Smoke Free Indy to promote the health benefits of city-wide
smoke-free ordinances, Emmis Community Outreach saw a chance to help.
SOLUTION:
In this program, Emmis Community Outreach worked on behalf of Smoke Free Indy to gain
public support for a clean indoor air ordinance in Marion County. With support from the
American Cancer Society and the American Legacy Foundation, Smoke Free Indy launched an
aggressive grassroots and multimedia campaign to educate the public and community leaders
about the health benefits and economic impact of clean indoor air.
The campaign involved a series of live broadcasts at public forums, video on demand
playback of public debates on WIBC.com, and testimonials radio messages reminding listeners
of the health hazards of working in second-hand smoke environments.
RESULT:
Emmis Community Outreach was proud to support Smoke Free Indy's local coalition and looks
forward to again partnering with Smoke Free Indy to further their work promoting healthier
lifestyles.
