CHALLENGE:
After a dangerous and deadly Spring and early Summer boating season on the greater St.
Louis waterways, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers decided it was time to educate the
public on water safety.
SOLUTION:
Emmis Community Outreach created a high impact media campaign which educated the public
on simple actions to increase water safety. The on-air campaign featured 30 second
educational announcements with tips on safe boating, swimming and even fishing and kayaking.
Additionally, KHITS 96 provided on-site exposure with a live broadcast remote at a water
safety event held by the Army Corps of Engineers with popular radio personality, Mark Klose.
The campaign focused on the busiest water recreation season of the year, July 4th.
RESULT:
Educational messages on KHITS 96 helped to educate the general public on water safety.
Through on-air commercials, live endorsements and on-site promotional elements, the
campaign reached more than 130,000 listeners in the St. Louis area. Due to the success
of the campaign, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Alton Convention & Visitors Bureau
are planning repeat campaigns during other popular water recreation weekends.
