e-cycle St. Louis, Missouri Department of
Natural Resources, St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District: It's easy to
e-cycle! |
CHALLENGE:
Emmis Community Outreach has worked with local and state organizations to develop programs aimed
at increasing recycling efforts. Through a multi-platform marketing and awareness campaign,
Emmis Community Outreach has been able to assist in educating the public about e-cycle St. Louis,
a non-profit governmental coalition created to encourage citizens to reuse, refurbish or recycle
their unwanted electronics.
SOLUTION:
The regional co-sponsors of this program recognized a staggering increase of electronics ending
up in the trash. With newer, faster electronics continually entering the marketplace, it had
become a pressing need to address the issue with consumers. Through the use of a broadcast
radio campaign, as well as a variety of non-traditional marketing techniques, Emmis Community
Outreach and e-cycle St. Louis made it easy for citizens to recycle their unwanted electronics.
An education DVD was distributed to over 100 local schools, Boy Scout troops and other educational
groups. Press releases and Letters to Editor were sent to major print and television outlets in
St. Louis on behalf of e-cycle St. Louis. Radio messages aired during the Christmas season
reminding listeners to recycle their unwanted electronics as they received all the latest gadgets
and gizmos.
RESULT:
Emmis Community Outreach is proud to have been part of such an important campaign in St. Louis.
The campaign was highly successful due to innovative marketing techniques and radio strategies.
