Indiana Recycling Coalition |
CHALLENGE:
The Indiana Recycling Coalition (IRC) sponsors the "e-Scrap" campaign which educates the community
about the dangers of discarding electronic items and the hazards they present when sent to landfills.
The IRC also provides information about safer and more environmentally friendly ways to dispose of
these items, such as recycling them or gifting them for reuse.
SOLUTION:
In working together, Emmis Community Outreach designed a state-wide educational campaign about
electronic recycling which directed listeners to the "e-Scrap" website, www.escrapindiana.org.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust
offered their support to make IRC's public awareness messages possible.
RESULT:
The outcome of this combination of organizations was a formal state-wide public education campaign
aired throughout the state over a six-month period via Network Indiana. This campaign heightened
awareness of the electronic recycling issue and informed consumers about electronic waste and more
environmentally conscious ways to dispose of these items. Emmis Community was proud to be the
vehicle for this important information and looks forward to working on similar projects in the
future.
