Indiana High School Athletic Association, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute & Network Indiana: Choices |
CHALLENGE:
The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is a nonprofit organization that expressly
works to facilitate high school sports while cultivating high school athletes to be good team
players on the field, in the classroom, and in life. Through a long standing relationship with
the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Emmis Community Outreach was aware of the IHSAA's
ongoing efforts to encourage athletes to make positive life choices.
SOLUTION:
Working together, the IHSAA and Emmis Community Outreach were able to create a multi-faceted
program to canvas Indiana with the message of "choices" reminding student athletes of the
importance of making good life choices. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI),
recognizing the ability of this campaign to encourage young people to be crime-free, supported
the efforts of IHSAA in developing the Choices campaign.
RESULT:
This campaign included in-school programming featuring IHSAA athletes making positive choices
(i.e. not to bully, not to cheat...), posters, collateral materials in local communities and a
statewide radio campaign sharing athletes' personal stories of positive choices. The message
was heard by over one million listeners every week throughout the ten month campaign.
Emmis Community Outreach looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Indiana Criminal
Justice Institute and the Indiana High School Athletics Association to encourage high school
student athletes to make positive choices.
