CHALLENGE:
Emmis Community Outreach has partnered with Smith Barney (a subsidiary of Citigroup) and Junior
Achievement of central Indiana to conduct a financial literacy public education campaign. As
an investment firm, Smith Barney has a vested interest in teaching young people how to manage
and plan their finances. Junior Achievement works directly with schools to provide financial
literacy materials and information to students. Through relationships with both organizations,
Emmis Community Outreach saw a creative opportunity to bring these organizations together to
inform and educate the community about financial literacy.
SOLUTION:
Junior Achievement, Smith Barney and Emmis Community Outreach worked together with the
Citigroup Foundation to secure corporate support for the community outreach financial literacy
campaign. Junior Achievement used this opportunity to integrate Smith Barney and Radio Now
into Exchange City, a virtual city where fifth graders are taught the basic economy of a city.
Using WIBC, Junior Achievement took this partnership throughout the community informing
listeners of Junior AchievementÕs work and encouraging parents to teach basic financial
literacy skills to their children.
RESULT:
Collectively, Smith Barney, Junior Achievement, and Emmis Indy Radio came together to help
teach young people more about the economy through experiential learning at Exchange City.
